The Pro Bono Institute hosted its Annual Dinner, themed “Celebrating the Promise of Pro Bono,” on November 6, at Gotham Hall in New York. Made possible by Dinner Co-Chairs Mark D. Chandler, Cisco Systems, Inc.; Eric J. Friedman, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; Robert C. Sheehan, Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom; and Randal S. Milch, Verizon Communications, Inc.; and its generous sponsors, the Dinner provided a venue to celebrate the pro bono achievements of our award winners and guests. Read more about our Co-chairs here.
As in past years, PBI presented its two annual honors – the John H. Pickering and CPBO Pro Bono Partner Awards. PBI presented the 2014 Pickering Award to Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom ; the 2014 Partner Award to American International Group, Inc.’s (AIG) Global Legal, Compliance, Regulatory, and Government Affairs department in partnership with the Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP).
Attendees also heard from special guest, Jawid Shehzad, a former U.S. military interpreter, who, with the help of AIG and IRAP, successfully applied for and received his Special Immigrant Visa which allowed him and his family to safely relocate to the U.S.
