Trends in In-House Pro Bono

Over the past several years, pro bono practice at in-house legal departments across the United States has grown tremendously. This program will consider what in-house pro bono could and should look like as the sophistication level of pro bono in legal departments grows. Topics will include integrating pro bono and corporate social responsibility, developing longer term more sophisticated projects, and global pro bono.

Once extremely controversial, the business case for pro bono, as articulated and disseminated by the Pro Bono Institute, has become widely accepted among law firm leaders. However, the shifts in the climate, economics, business practices, and outside pressures at major firms that have occurred in the past two years, and the potential of significant future changes, require a re-thinking of the business case, to ensure that it is relevant in a new and different time. This new panel discussion will focus on the elements of the most effective and convincing business case for these times.
