2025 FIPBD Impact Summary: Financial & Insurance Industries Unite for Sixth Annual Pro Bono Day

April 24, 2025, marked the sixth annual Financial Institution Pro Bono Day® (FIPBD®) event, led by Corporate Pro Bono (CPBO), the global in-house project of Pro Bono Institute (PBI), in collaboration with dozens of legal departments from the financial and insurance sectors. Pro bono leaders from legal departments, in partnership with law firms and legal services organizations, organized 71 pro bono service and training opportunities, continuing to expand access to justice through the delivery of vital legal services to underserved communities.

The FIPBD industry day of pro bono service increases access to justice for low-income and marginalized communities. The event promotes in-house pro bono engagement and encourages collaboration across the financial and insurance industries, as well as with law firms and legal services partners. In addition to legal clinics and training sessions, several companies hosted community service events as part of their broader commitment to public service.

The FIPBD event highlights the importance and impact of pro bono service, affirming the legal profession’s commitment to fairness, dignity, and the public good through meaningful support for individuals and communities in need.

A Day of Impact

On April 24, approximately 1,200 financial and insurance company volunteers and their partners came together to address critical legal needs in their communities. More than 800 in-house attorneys and legal staff participated in an FIPBD event, offering legal support and guidance on a wide range of issues affecting low-income and marginalized individuals. More than 350 law firm volunteers joined their in-house colleagues.

Legal services provided included:

  • Expungement and record sealing for formerly incarcerated individuals
  • Divorce filings and legal assistance for survivors of domestic violence
  • Immigration services, including asylum and citizenship applications
  • Consumer protection and debt defense
  • Housing support and eviction diversion assistance
  • Wills, estate planning, and other vital legal services for seniors and veterans
  • Legal counsel for small businesses, nonprofits, and micro-entrepreneurs
  • Support for global human rights, refugee protection, and international legal research projects
  • and so much more

Collectively, FIPBD event volunteers served more than 1,100 clients. In addition to providing direct legal services, volunteers helped provide support and create lasting resources for more than 50 small businesses and nonprofit organizations, including innovative tools and materials that will continue to support individuals and organizations well beyond the event.

This year, 42 legal departments from the financial and insurance sectors organized or participated in an FIPBD event, reflecting continued growth and deepening commitment across the industry.
