For more than 25 years, PBI has pioneered strategies and initiatives to exponentially increase pro bono legal services to low-income and other marginalized people and communities. This includes launching projects and events designed to bring together the legal community to promote engagement, encourage innovation, and advance creative dialogue on legal practice and access to justice for all.
Financial Institution Pro Bono Day (FIPBD)
This annual event brings together volunteer attorneys and legal staff from the financial services and insurance industries to provide pro bono legal assistance to address critical legal needs of underserved communities and promote in-house pro bono engagement and collaboration. Launched in 2019, FIPBD has engaged hundreds of volunteers annually from dozens of companies in the financial and insurance industries to serve thousands of clients in need.
FIPBD is organized by the CPBO project of PBI to spotlight the severe gap in legal services for underserved individuals and promote in-house pro bono collaboration in partnership with law firms and legal services organizations.
This annual event brings together volunteer attorneys and legal staff from electric and gas companies to provide pro bono legal assistance to address critical legal needs of underserved communities and promote in-house pro bono engagement and collaboration. Launched in 2022, EmPOWERing Pro Bono Day has engaged more than 100 volunteers from power and gas companies to serve hundreds of clients.
EmPOWERing Pro Bono Day is organized by the CPBO project of PBI to spotlight the severe gap in legal services for underserved individuals and promote in-house pro bono collaboration in partnership with law firms and legal services organizations.
More and more, organizations of all types and sizes are being asked to navigate the complexities and uncertainties of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) and promote their corporate purpose. This includes articulating and implementing an organization’s responsibility for and role in advancing positive societal change.
PBI hosted the 2022 Social Impact Summit in September 2023, convening leaders from law firms, companies, public interest organizations, academia, and other important stakeholders to analyze the “S” in Environmental, Social, and Governance standards and to determine how access to justice and pro bono can play a critical role in amplifying an organization’s commitment to measurable social impact.
PBI hosted the 2023 Social Impact Pre-Conference in February 2023, convening pro bono, ESG, and other law firm leaders to examine the development of ESG in law firms in the U.S. and around the globe and determine strategies to support, advance, and enhance law firm pro bono, access to justice, and social impact goals.
