This volunteer menu includes pro bono opportunities open to in-house lawyers and legal professionals across various departments as part of the 2025 Financial Institution Pro Bono Day® (FIPBD®) event.
The opportunities listed include virtual, hybrid, and in-person events, along with details on licensing requirements (if any) and how to RSVP. While several events can accommodate many volunteers, some may have capacity limits. Please RSVP early if you are interested in participating. The FIPBD event, organized by Corporate Pro Bono (CPBO), the global in-house project of the Pro Bono Institute (PBI), brings together legal teams from financial institutions and insurance companies to provide pro bono legal assistance to underserved communities, highlighting the impact of in-house pro bono work.

This work will support the Real Rights Project for the Global Initiative on Justice with Children and the Terre des hommes Foundation.

Justice in Action Pro Bono Sprint – Street Rights for Mothers: Global Laws Impacting Mothers and Kids

Justice in Action Pro Bono Sprints are virtual half-day sessions hosted by Baker McKenzie that bring together volunteers to work on critical pro bono projects. Volunteers will research the legal rights of mothers and children in challenging situations, particularly in South Africa, where mothers risk losing custody of their children when taking them to work on the streets. This work will support Street Rights, a British NGO focused on redefining human rights law for street children.

Discharge Upgrade Intake Clinic with The Veterans Consortium
April 24, 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM ET (open to lawyers and legal professionals in the United States)
Volunteers will join Davis Wright Tremaine for a virtual clinic to help The Veterans Consortium evaluate veterans’ eligibility to apply for a discharge upgrade. Working in teams, volunteers will gather information about the veteran’s military service, document the circumstances leading to their discharge, and complete intake forms to assist in the evaluation for full representation. The clinic starts with a one-hour training, followed by client meetings. Volunteers will also advise on evidence submission and strategy.

Expungement Clinic with Legal Aid Chicago

Volunteers will join Davis Wright Tremaine and Legal Aid Chicago for a virtual clinic to assist clients in preparing their expungement and sealing petitions. The clinic starts with a one-hour training on preparing criminal expungement petitions, followed by team-based work to draft petitions for pre-screened clients. Legal Aid Chicago will provide training materials in advance and be present to answer questions throughout the clinic.

Mapping Clinic with Mapping Segregation in Washington, DC
April 24, 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM ET (open to lawyers and legal professionals in the United States)
Volunteers will join Davis Wright Tremaine for a virtual event to assist with mapping racially restrictive covenants in Washington, DC, as part of the Mapping Segregation project. The clinic begins with a presentation on the history of restrictive covenants and redlining, followed by identifying these covenants in historic property deeds and entering data into a mapping database. The resulting maps will be publicly available and used by the DC government to address past discriminatory practices.

Remote Answer & Discovery Clinic

Volunteers will join Goodwin Procter and Volunteer Lawyers Project for a virtual clinic to assist individuals whose landlords have served them with a Notice to Quit in generating their Answer and Discovery forms using a tool designed for pro se litigants. Volunteers will draft forms such as notices of transfer to housing court and motions to dismiss. Training will be provided; no special expertise is required.

DeKalb Pro Bono Wills Clinic

This two-part event offers a hybrid opportunity for volunteer attorneys to assist clients with simple will and health document preparation. On Day 1 (April 23), volunteer attorneys will conduct virtual client intake and draft wills and health documents. On Day 2 (April 24), attorneys will review and sign the documents with clients in-person. Training and expert support will be provided to ensure volunteer attorneys are fully prepared. Lawyers and legal professionals from any jurisdiction may join Day 1; GA-licensed lawyers may participate on Day 2.

Small Business Brief Advice Legal Clinic

The DC Bar Pro Bono Center and PNC are sponsoring a walk-in legal clinic for community-based entrepreneurs with general legal questions about their aspiring or existing small businesses. This is a brief advice clinic; volunteers are not expected to provide ongoing representation. Malpractice insurance is provided. Non-lawyers will conduct on-site client-intake interviews.

Pro Se Uncontested Divorce Clinic

Volunteers will join Bloomberg, Goodwin Procter, and Access Justice Brooklyn in-person to assist low-income women in filing uncontested, pro se divorce petitions. Clients have typically already settled custody, visitation, and support issues but have not yet filed for divorce due to financial constraints or fear of severing their legal relationship with their spouse. No special training is required; training will be provided.

Expungement Clinic – Drake Law School
May 2, 11:00 AM ET, in-person at Nationwide Insurance Office, 2507 University Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa (open to IA-licensed lawyers, legal professionals, and law students)
Volunteers will join Nationwide in-person for a clinic supporting local community members seeking expungement of minor crimes. Volunteers will help clients with expungement forms and guide them through the legal process. Drake University Law School, a local sorority, Polk County Bar Association and others will train, staff the clinic, and promote the event.
