Julie DeMareo

Julie DeMareo is an Administrative Assistant for PBI serving President and CEO Esther F. Lardent. Before joining PBI, Julie completed a year of service with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps in Los Angeles where she assisted the Campus Ministry and College Guidance departments at an inner-city high school in the Watts neighborhood. She holds a B.A. in International Affairs from The George Washington University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a concentration in Conflict & Security and a minor in Religion. While at GW, Julie studied abroad in Madrid, Spain, and also worked as an intern for a number of nonprofits in Washington, D.C. area. She is originally from South Jersey and passionately follows Philadelphia sports teams.

Reena N. Glazer, Esq.
Assistant Director, Law Firm Pro Bono Project

Since October 2006, Reena Glazer has been the assistant director of the Law Firm Pro Bono Project at PBI. Glazer came to PBI from the Washington, D.C., office of Goodwin Procter LLP, where she was a partner in the firm's Litigation Department. Glazer was a partner at Shea & Gardner prior to its merger with Goodwin Procter in 2004. Before joining Shea & Gardner in 1995, she clerked for the Hon. Gerald Bard Tjoflat of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Glazer is a graduate of Barnard College, Columbia University; The Jewish Theological Seminary of America; and Duke University School of Law, where she served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Duke Law Journal and a member of the Moot Court Board. She has had the good fortune of being associated with law firms that emphasize pro bono and has been able to work on a variety of pro bono cases over the years with many different public interest and community organizations. She was even named "Litigator of the Month" by The National Law Journal for one such high-profile case.

Christina Gordon
Director, Strategic Communications and Stewardship

Christina Gordon is director of strategic communications and stewardship with PBI, where she is building a multifaceted strategic communications and outreach program. Prior to PBI, Gordon was director of communications for the National School Boards Association in Alexandria, Va., where she managed all aspects of the organization’s communications program, including public and media relations, social media tools, and the award-winning BoardBuzz blog. Additionally, she worked for Arlington Transportation Partners, integrating new media tools to raise awareness of the organization’s mission. Gordon also taught seventh grade English in Montgomery County, Md. She holds a B.A. in English literature from Wittenberg University in Springfield, Ohio, where she also hosted a weekly program on campus radio. She is a member of the Public Relations Society of America.

Shannon A. Graving, Esq.
Assistant Director, Corporate Pro Bono

Shannon Graving is the assistant project director of Corporate Pro Bono. Before joining CPBO, Graving worked for more than nine years as a lawyer at Holland & Knight in Washington, D.C., where she oversaw the firm’s partnership with The List Project, a nonprofit that works to help Iraqis imperiled due to their work with the U.S. In addition, she represented clients in mergers and acquisitions, D&O insurance, and general corporate matters. Graving graduated from Wellesley College and Georgetown University Law Center. In addition to being passionate about pro bono, Graving is also dedicated to women’s issues and serves on the advisory board for the National Women’s History Museum.

Esther F. Lardent, Esq.
President and Chief Executive Officer

Long active in legal services and the organized bar, Ms. Lardent serves in the ABA's House of Delegates and has served as chair or member of numerous ABA committees and task forces, including the Commission on Immigration, Consortium on Legal Services and the Public, Commission on Domestic Violence, Task Force on Terrorism, and various ABA committees on pro bono and legal services. She was a member of the ABA Board of Governors from 1996 to 1999. Most recently, she has been named Co-Chair of DLA Piper (US) LLP’s innovative global pro bono project, New Perimeter, as well as a member of the Global Advisory Committee for Ashoka’s ASE program.

Before joining the Pro Bono Institute, Lardent served as an independent legal and policy consultant for the Ford Foundation, the American Bar Association, state and local bar associations, public interest and legal services programs, and other clients. From 1977 to 1985, she was the founder and first director of the Volunteer Lawyers Project of the Boston Bar Association, one of the nation’s first organized pro bono programs, and, in conjunction with that position, administered a nationwide pro bono technical assistance effort from 1981 to 1985.

Lardent received her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, from Brown University, and her J.D. was awarded by the University of Chicago. Ms. Lardent has received a number of awards in recognition of her public service contributions, including the Exemplar Award from the National Legal Aid and Defender Association, the Philadelphia Bar Association Founder Award, the William Reece Smith, Jr. Award from the National Association of Pro Bono Coordinators, the National Association for Public Interest Law’s Public Service Award, and was named one of the 90 greatest lawyers in Washington, D.C. by the Legal Times.

Lardent has been a guest on National Public Radio, CNN, Washington Watch, Nightline, and other network, cable, and local television and radio programs. She has taught at a number of law schools and served as a panelist for numerous organizations and conferences. She has also contributed to and written a number of publications, law articles, and books.

David Lipscomb
Communications Assistant

David Carson Lipscomb has been the communications assistant with PBI since February 2010. Lipscomb was previously a Metropolitan reporter for The Washington Times, specializing in D.C government, education, and public safety. He has won awards in journalism for continuing news coverage and spot news coverage in New York state and the Washington Metropolitan Area. Lipscomb also served as the press secretary for Ward 1 D.C. Councilmember Jim Graham during a year when the councilmember served as the chairman of the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority’s board of directors. Lipscomb earned a B.A. degree in print journalism from the Philip Merrill College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, College Park.

Sarah E. Neuman
Corporate Pro Bono Assistant

Sarah Neuman serves as the project assistant of Corporate Pro Bono. Neuman has been with CPBO since August 2010. She holds a B.A. in Political Science and a minor in Chinese from the University of Michigan, and spent a semester studying in Shanghai, China. While in school, Neuman worked at the university’s Career Center, leading a group of 100 students interested in public service internships through the internship application process.  She currently enjoys volunteering as a tutor with the SEED School of Washington and CASA for the Children of DC.

Chris Niebling
Operations Manager

Chris Niebling joined PBI in June 2010 as the operations manager. Niebling manages human resources, office technology, accounts payable, and day-to-day operations. Previously, he was an IT Consultant for Mindspire Technologies, and the office services manager for Widmeyer Communications. He holds a B.A. in Theater and minor in History from Oberlin College. Niebling also moonlights as an actor, director, and fight choreographer at various theaters in the Washington/Baltimore region.

Eve Runyon, Esq.
Director, Corporate Pro Bono

Eve Runyon is the project director of Corporate Pro Bono. Before joining CPBO, Runyon worked for more than five years as a lawyer at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher, & Flom in Washington, D.C., where she represented major U.S. electric, gas, and pipeline companies in matters before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and federal and state courts. While at Skadden, she participated in the Skadden Loaned Associate program, a seven-month externship program with Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia. At Legal Aid, she served as lead counsel in child custody, child support, domestic violence, landlord tenant, housing, and public benefits cases. Runyon graduated from the University of Virginia and Yale Law School.

Amy B. Saltzman, CMP

Amy Saltzman joined PBI in December 2011 as the Manager of Fundraising and Events. With more than 10 years of event management experience, Saltzman manages logistics for PBI’s Annual Conference and Dinner and oversees PBI’s fundraising efforts. Previously, she was a Meeting and Event Manager at Experient and Courtesy Associates. Saltzman received her B.A. in English from The George Washington University, earned her Certified Meeting Professional designation in 2008 and is a member of Meeting Professionals International. A native of New Jersey, she’s made Washington, D.C., her home since 1995.

Christine Sutherland
Law Firm Project Assistant

Christine Sutherland serves as the Law Firm Project Assistant and has been with PBI since July 2011. She holds a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance and a minor in Legal Studies from Bryant University. Christine held an internship with an immigration law firm in New York City, where her passion for a career in the legal field first developed. She assisted attorneys with the preparation, documentation, and filing of petition and support letters for O and EB-1 visa applications. With her recent move to the area, Christine has been busy exploring all that D.C has to offer.

Tammy Taylor, Esq.
Director, Law Firm Pro Bono Project

Tammy Taylor is the director of the Law Firm Pro Bono Project and operations for PBI. In her role as director of the Law Firm Project, she administers the Law Firm Pro Bono Challenge®, a unique, global aspirational pro bono standard for the world’s largest law firms to acknowledge their institutional, firm-wide commitment to provide pro bono legal services to low income and disadvantaged individuals and families and nonprofit groups. She provides individualized consultation to law firms seeking to integrate pro bono into their practice, philosophy, and culture. She is also responsible for planning the PBI Annual Seminar which attracts 450 managing partners, pro bono partners, corporate general counsel, and other pro bono leaders from around the world. Before joining PBI, Taylor was the director of the American Bar Association’s Post conviction Death Penalty Representation Project. She received her undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and her law degree from American University, Washington College of Law.
